TURN UP THE VOLUME ON WEIGHT SUCCESS WITH FOCUS
What are you focusing on in your life right now? Have you ever noticed that your life becomes what you chose to focus on? Have you ever noticed that you can Shift your focus, and therefore your reality within a few seconds? This becomes so clear when you see a crying baby or toddler’s caregiver trying to focus them away from crying and shifting their focus to a toy they are shaking. You see the wails turn into a smile in a few seconds. But, even as adults, we can do this.
We can either choose to focus on things that leave us feeling stuck and disempowered or choose to focus on things that allow us to feel like we are moving forward in our lives and are in control of our destinies.
NEGATIVE FOCUS = NEGATIVE OUTCOME
When we struggle with our weight and food, we often are focusing on the negative things. Whatever we did that was “bad”, the food that we “can’t” have, the pounds that we didn’t lose. Sometimes we don’t even focus at all—and walk around in a state of oblivion when it comes to our choices about taking care of ourselves and our body.
I know that when I struggled in the past, I would focus on all the things that I wasn’t doing and beat myself up about it—rather than focusing on what I could do. The negative focus caused such horrible feelings of guilt and anxiety that I would eat to numb myself from all the negative focus.
That is why I want to share with you a quick and easy path to begin to focus on your weight mastery in a way that will move you towards success.
DRILL DOWN TO WEIGHT RELEASE GOLD WITH POSITIVE FOCUS
Understanding how to focus our minds towards success is a huge skill of weight mastery. It is easy to get distracted away from self care and our weight loss with our busy lives. It is also easy to have a bad day, get down on yourself and get pulled into focusing on the negative.
DON’T GO DOWN THAT PATH—GO DOWN THIS ONE INSTEAD: MONTHLY VISION---WEEKLY GOAL---DAILY FOCUS
Focusing our minds on what is important sometimes mean starting with a broader focus to remind ourselves of that path we want to be on (VISION), getting clear on what we want to accomplish (GOAL), and then focusing on what is do-able to do today to keep moving forward (FOCUS).
MONTHLY VISION: RE-SEEING, RE-EXCITING OURSELVES ON THE BIGGER PICTURE
It’s easy to get lost in the day-to-day “task work”. When we begin to get down, or feel like the weight journey is too “hard”, it is important to go back to our vision for the month. What is possible for you this month? When you close your eyes and see yourself at the end of the month having achieved your goals—what does that look like? Feel like? Doesn’t that feel good? This is the exercise we do every month at our Shift Monthly Meeting to re-engage the mind.
When we SHIFT from Fat to Thin thinking, we learn the importance of having a vision. Having a vision of ourselves at our ideal weight helps our mind look forward towards where it needs to go and literally TURNS ON our unconscious mind.
WEEKLY GOAL: GETTING CLEAR ON THE ACTIONS NEEDED
We know that hoping to “be good this week” or “I am going to try to exercise more” do absolutely nothing to engage your mind. Setting clear goals is the only way the mind can be engaged and get clear on what needs to happen.
Once you have engaged with your vision for the month, drill down to the upcoming week. What goals do you need to set to accomplish your vision this week? Do you need to release a pound? Great—how are you going to burn those 3500 calories? Focus on creating a 500 calorie deficit with your food each day? Exercise 500 calories more per day? Mix it up and do a little of both. Bring your brain into focus by making a decision on what actions need to occur to move forward.

Now that we have energized our mind with our MONTHLY VISION, and motivated it with our WEEKLY GOAL, it is time to dive deeply into our daily focus to make the magic happen.
Focusing on what we can do gives us a feeling of being in charge of our destiny. It is also important to remember though that our mind can only focus on a few things at a time so it is important to focus on the things that will move you more fruitfully towards your goal.

Having a focus on a few things keeps your mind in the right place. Also focusing on the fact that you are following through on these few things builds your confidence. When you repeat your focus on a daily basis, those moments of focus become habit and need less focus because they are now automatic—that frees your mind to focus on new things!
