January Week 4: Focus On What Is Going Well

We are coming up to the end of our monthly theme of FOCUS. This week I want to keep the focus simple and look at all the things that you are doing that are working for your journey to weight mastery.

 

FOCUS ON WHAT IS GOING WELL

Have you gotten into the habit of picking on yourself and looking at your behaviors around weight management through the “how did I fail this time?” or “what am I doing wrong now?” glasses?

Staying focused on your weight release shortcomings only builds DISTRUST with yourself ( a topic we will tackle next month!) and sets your deeper mind up to expect more failure and struggle.

This week, let’s instead FOCUS on what you are currently doing that is moving TOWARDS weight release.

Take a sheet of paper and put it on your desk or open a Word document in your computer and keep a running list of; things that you are doing, beliefs that you are forming, habits that you are building currently that you feel good about.

Making this list will get you conscious to the fact that you are making progress even though it might not seem like you are.

Some things you may be doing that move you in the right direction:

  • Starting the day with a healthy breakfast
  • Bringing your lunch with you to work or on errands
  • Trying to make 10,000 steps a day
  • Remembering in to have a healthy snack stashed in your desk
  • Taking a breath instead of eating when you feel stressed.

What things are you currently doing right now that are moving you towards your weight and health goals? Write them down now.

Keep adding to the list over the week and you will see that you are probably already doing many things that work--that you are a good length of the way to making the change you want already.

Once you are conscious of these good habits challenge yourself to “over practice them”. The term “over practice” means to be conscious and focused on increasing these best practices so that not only do they become habit over time but that by the time you cut out over practicing, the good habit will just be a part of you and not something that you are “doing”.

Enjoy immersing yourself in how good it feels to be focused on what is working rather than on what isn’t and enjoy how skilled you already are!

Good habits I will over practice this week:jan

  • Waking up and going for a walk
  • Drinking a glass of water when I think I am hungry and waiting to see if it was hunger or not.
  • Taking a breath and feeling a feeling instead of eating over it
